Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Corrections is seeking an organized and detail-oriented person to serve as an Office Assistant in the Mailroom at Stateville Correctional Center. The ideal candidate will receive incoming and outgoing mail. In addition, they will review outgoing vouchers, operate a variety of office equipment, forward items to the Publication Review Committee for review and complete incident reports. The candidate should possess the ability to multi-task and communicate effectively with multiple entities. We encourage all qualified individuals to apply.

Essential Functions

  • Receives incoming and outgoing mail.
  • Reviews outgoing vouchers.
  • Operates various office equipment.
  • Receives and routes newspapers, magazines, and books to the Publication Review Committee for review and approval prior to distribution to individuals in custody(s).
  • Completes incident reports upon discovery of contraband items or other unusual incidents.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of high school and one (1) year of related office experience.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.
  • Required to utilize digital technology, tools, platforms, and processes in managing and supporting various digital enhancements for greater efficiency, productivity, and digital transformation efforts within the department.
